Gear Score is one of the easiest progression numbers to see in Aion 2, but it does not tell the whole story. Two characters with similar equipment levels can perform very differently because their Daevanion progression, skill levels, and permanent character upgrades may be at different stages.
For this reason, chasing Gear Score alone can sometimes lead to inefficient resource spending. A better approach is to build your character from both equipment and permanent progression systems.
What Makes Daevanion So Important?
The Daevanion system uses boards containing different nodes that provide permanent character improvements. Depending on the node, these bonuses can include basic combat stats, passive effects, or additional skill levels.
This is different from replacing equipment. When you obtain a stronger weapon, your previous weapon may eventually become obsolete. Daevanion progression, however, is part of your character’s long-term development.
That makes every Daevanion Point more important than its Gear Score contribution might initially suggest.
Players should also avoid simply following the shortest-looking route on a board. Some paths require several weaker nodes before reaching a powerful upgrade, so planning the complete route before spending points can prevent unnecessary resets and resource costs.
Skill Levels Can Change Your Actual Performance
Skill levels are another reason Gear Score should not be treated as the only measure of progression.
Increasing the level of a frequently used skill can improve the ability that appears repeatedly throughout your rotation. Daevanion nodes can provide additional skill levels, while other progression systems can also contribute to skill development.
Consider a simple example. A character might have slightly lower Gear Score than another player but have stronger levels on the skills used throughout their main rotation. In actual combat, the difference may be more noticeable than the Gear Score gap suggests.
This is why spending your Aion 2 Kinah only on equipment upgrades is not always the most efficient progression strategy.
Which Daevanion Nodes Should You Prioritize?
The exact priority depends on your class, but the general principle is to focus on nodes that directly improve your core combat setup.
A useful progression order is:
- Core offensive or defensive stats
- Skill-level nodes for frequently used abilities
- Useful specialization-related upgrades
- Efficient nodes along your planned route
- Secondary or situational bonuses
Damage-focused characters can generally look for offensive improvements that strengthen their regular rotation, while defensive and support classes should consider nodes that improve survivability or important utility.
The key is to avoid spreading points randomly across multiple boards without a clear objective.
Don’t Ignore Permanent Progression
Aion 2 has several systems that contribute to character growth beyond equipment. Daevanion, skill progression, and other permanent systems can continue strengthening a character even when equipment upgrades temporarily slow down.
This matters particularly when you reach a point where the next equipment upgrade requires a large amount of resources.
Instead of spending everything on one small Gear Score increase, check whether you have unfinished Daevanion paths or important skill upgrades available.
Season 3 also expanded character-growth systems and introduced Daevanian Yustiel, which adds another layer of progression alongside higher-tier equipment and other content.
Gear Score Still Matters
This does not mean Gear Score is unimportant.
Higher-tier equipment provides stronger base stats and unlocks access to increasingly difficult content. Equipment enhancement, Breakthrough, accessories, and other gear systems remain essential parts of progression.
The mistake is treating Gear Score as the only target.
A better approach is to ask three questions before spending resources:
- Does this upgrade improve my main combat rotation?
- Will this equipment remain useful for a long time?
- Is there a permanent progression upgrade that provides better value?
This helps prevent wasting resources on temporary equipment.
A Balanced Progression Strategy
A practical approach is to maintain both sides of progression at the same time.
Use equipment upgrades to reach the requirements for new content, while using Daevanion and skill progression to strengthen your character permanently.
When your Gear Score increases but your main skills remain underdeveloped, your character may not perform as well as expected. Likewise, strong Daevanion progression cannot completely replace appropriate equipment.
The goal is balance rather than choosing one system exclusively.
- For long-term progression, think of your character as having two layers:
- Equipment: Weapons, armor, accessories, enhancement, and Breakthrough.
- Permanent progression: Daevanion nodes, skill levels, and other character-wide upgrades.
